SITA’s annual GovTech conference takes shape

10 March 2008 (Pretoria) - The State Information Technology Agency (SITA) is set to deliver the third edition of its leading edge technology in government conference, known as GovTech, in South Africa’s garden province during July 2008.

First launched in 2006, GovTech has distinguished itself as the country’s premier public sector information and communications technology (ICT) conference.

SITA’s CEO, Llewellyn Jones says that key building blocks to deliver the 2008 conference are in place and the stage has been set to repeat past successes, while introducing new innovations.

“Since its inauguration, GovTech has consistently set high standards by focusing on relevant ICT subject areas that are pertinent to addressing service delivery constraints within government. These topics are presented by ICT experts from South Africa and abroad, which has contributed immensely to GovTech’s reputation as a thought leadership platform.”

The 2008 conference will be held in KwaZulu-Natal at the Durban International Convention Centre from 27 – 30 July 2008 and has as its theme ‘Collaborate, Innovate and Deliver’.

Jones says the theme is particularly relevant since it underpins important aspects of SITA’s strategic objectives.

“‘Collaborate’ underpins our efforts to forge strong partnerships with industry to drive government’s transformation and public service delivery objectives, while ‘Innovate’ underscores the dynamism of the ICT landscape and the need to continually remain at the cutting edge of new developments to ensure faster, more efficient and effective service delivery.”

Jones adds that ‘Deliver’ entails translating all projects, plan and initiatives into tangible outcomes that can demonstrate real value add and contribute towards transforming government and truly improving public service delivery.

GijimaAST has reaffirmed its Diamond sponsor status for the conference, which it has already held for the past two events. The Platinum sponsors are Business Connexion, SAP South Africa and Telkom.

Jonas Bogoshi, GijimaAST’s CEO says the company is proud to be associated with the prestigious GovTech conference as its top sponsor.

“We recognise the strong brand value of GovTech and the strategic exposure it offers us. It provides us with a viable platform to market our products and services to key public sector decision-makers, while giving us the opportunity to network and collaborate with thought leaders on ICT matters of national concern,” says Bogoshi.
