Leadership Messages
The inaugural Govtech 2006 conference brought together more than
900 government and ICT industry representatives at Sun City,
from 30 October to 3 November. The 2nd Govtech 2007 event, which
took place in Cape Town from 20 to 23 August, had a record
attendance of close to 1400 delegates. This year's Govtech
conference promises to be even bigger and better!
Llewellyn Jones, CEO, SITA
ICT is a recognised enabler in promoting more efficient and effective government, as well as facilitating more access to government services and information and making governments more accountable to citizens.
Govtech, alongside other SITA initiatives, is our contribution to promote knowledge sharing and foster dialogue among various ICT role players who share common interest in transforming government.
As we endeavour to create a more service-oriented face for the public sector, Govtech underscores SITA's commitment to provide an ICT thought leadership platform that showcases the latest technologies, solutions and trends and brings together diverse stakeholders across the public and private sector.
Join us as we 'collaborate, innovate and deliver' at Govtech 2008.

Femke Pienaar, Chief of Business Operations, SITA
Over the past two years GovTech has distinguished itself as a landmark platform where ICT decision-makers and thought leaders in the public and private sector can collaborate, network and exchange knowledge.
Notwithstanding these important benefits, at GovTech’s core is our firm objective to improve public service delivery.
We are confident that the engagement of various role players – given the depth of ICT expertise and experience at GovTech events – has and will continue to contribute meaningfully to the future of public sector ICT in South Africa.
GovTech has also consistently proven that it is more than just a talk shop. Since the inaugural conference in 2006, numerous outcomes have been identified and progressed upon. Key among these were initiating open source software projects, reviewing the state’s e-government strategy and progressing development of an ICT skills strategy in collaboration with industry and academia.
Our 2008 conference will again offer high calibre local and international speakers, while showcasing leading edge technologies and solutions in public service delivery. This will all be underpinned by the new and exciting theme: ‘collaborate, innovate and deliver’.

Moses Mtimunye, Chief of Strategic Services, SITA
SITA's future direction is premised on partnerships with our clients, industry and other stakeholders to ensure a collaborative effort is undertaken to deploy solutions that are cost effective and enhance interoperability, security and efficiency of ICT in the public sector.
Given that government is the foremost consumer and user of ICT products in South Africa, with annual expenditure estimated at up to R14 billion, the importance of Govtech as a forum for private/public sector engagement is self-evident.
To this end, Govtech 2008's theme - 'collaborate, innovate and deliver' - is both apt and profound in the context of government transformation through ICT.
Contemporary government is confronted with major ICT issues that require thorough exploration, discussion and debate to ensure informed decisions are taken that will ultimately serve to benefit our citizens. Govtech offers a sound platform for engagement in this regard.

Kelepile Kgobokoe, Govtech Project Director
& Head of Marketing and Sales Operations, SITA
Once again, the time has come to collaborate with industry, to explore the use of innovative information technologies to serve citizens better and find new, practical solutions to the technological challenges of the public sector.
Govtech 2008, which takes place at the Durban International Convention Centre from 27-30 July, aims to do just that.
It seeks to facilitate the discovery and adoption of technologies that ensure exceptional service delivery and provide insight into successful initiatives that have been undertaken across the public sector.
This year’s theme – collaborate, innovate and deliver – will continue last year’s exploration of public service transformation, but place the spotlight on innovation and collaboration in the delivery of “citizen-centered” services.
